Are Corn Dogs Healthy?

It is advisable to consume corn dogs as an occasional indulgence only. Since they contain processed meat and are also deep-fried, they cannot be called a healthy snack. There is no way to substitute the ingredients to make them more nutritious – then it wouldn’t be a corn dog anymore! When you want to treat yourself to pakoras or chicken fingers next time, you can instead make these hot dogs. Remember to savour them well, as you must not have them too often.

Corn dogs require a specific type of batter

In a large bowl, mix maida (regular flour), maize/corn flour, besan (gram flour), sugar, salt, baking powder, buttermilk, eggs, oil and honey. Form a smooth batter and ensure there are no lumps. Take chicken sausages (defrost them if they were frozen) and dip them into the batter. Cover them well and then pop them into the hot oil. Deep-fry until they turn golden brown. Drain them on absorbent paper and enjoy hot. You can choose to pierce them with skewers before serving.
